CV
In my work, I use tattoo symbols on bodies. They show memories, faiths, desires, struggles, and resistance. I also bring romantic but ephemeral images from pop culture.
Symbols reflect the beliefs held within a group. However, these beliefs often do not align with the truth but become reality and this collective illusions can sometimes lead to errors and madness.
I transform symbols into figures of both terror and sublimity, and metaphors for the monstrous skin of soci- ety—of unending awkwardness, collective illusions, anxiety, excitement, and discomfort.
I collect tatoo and anime images from the internet, SNS, magazines. By using heavy materiality, toxic colors and scattering, vibrating brush strokes on a large-scale canvas, I break the traditional images and bring out the abysmal, uncanny, overwhelming, dystopic fog lurking behind them. By letting the edges of paintings unstretched and ripped, and using thin Hangi paper with ink, I also try to show the ephemerality and unsta- bility of the phenomenon in society.
